Cleveland Heights High Holocaust Awareness Volunteer Project
After learning about the Holocaust with educator Mark Sacks, a teacher at Cleveland Heights High School, students were invited to collaborate with artist Nancy Schwartz-Katz on a mural reflecting what they had learned. Because many of the students were African American, the mural also incorporated the African American experience. Working alongside educators Nancy Rich, Mark Sack and Sarah Cooper, Schwartz-Katz guided students in exploring how to acknowledge the past while imagining a more just future. The mural ultimately became a symbol of breaking chains and cutting through the weight of history, embracing shared humanity as a reminder of how we choose to treat one another.
