Fairmount Temple Windows Project

Bogomolny Community Chapel

In the Winter of 2023, Anshe Chesed Temple faced extensive  restoration following a destructive fire, and had to relocate services and programs to a community room. But how would they elevate the ordinary space as a spiritual home for congregants? The synagogue’s director invited Nancy Schwartz-Katz to reimagine the room’s windows in a way that would create warmth, meaning, and a sense of sacredness. Undeterred by complex structural limitations within the existing windows, Nancy approached the project’s challenges conceptually, transforming an original artwork into custom decorative window coverings spanning a 15-by-53-foot expanse. The once utilitarian space became a luminous, uplifting environment, restoring a sense of spirituality, continuity, and welcome for all who gathered there.
